Skillet Seitan Parmesan by Gnewvegan

This is one my my recipes that I made after learning about seitan. Being vegan does not mean that I can not enjoy my Italian food. Being Italian one of my joys was Italian food and I still enjoy them, vegan style. One of my goals is to make as many of the dishes I enjoyed the vegan way. I hope my readers will enjoy this. I certainly did :)

Skillet Seitan Parmesan

Serves one

2 Tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon black ground pepper
1/8 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon dry parsley
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon vegan bread crumbs
3 oz seitan, store bought chicken style (or home made)
3 Tablespoons marinara sauce (homemade or from a jar)
1 Tablespoon vegan mozzarella (optional)(more if desired)
½ Tablespoon vegan parmesan cheese (more if desired)
1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1- Mix together first 6 ingredients in a sandwich type bag . Put seitan in bag, close and shake well to coat.
2- Preheat an 8" nonstick skillet for one minute. Then heat the oil in the pan for one minute.
3- Shake excess flour mixture off seitan and lay seitan flat in heated pan. Brown each side about 3 to 4 minutes per side, to form a nice golden brown.
4- Pour the sauce over the seitan after both sides have been browned, sprinkle the parmesan cheese evenly over seitan and mozzarella if using.
5- Cover the pan, with a small opening at one side to allow steam to escape. On low flame, about three minutes, let cheese melt and sauce to warm. Serve and enjoy.

This sounds delish! You are fortunate to have lots of vegan food options to chose from, where you are. In some areas, that's still hard to find.

PS The Mitz is indeed 20 years young, she's been with me since she was 6 weeks old!!!!

Having those options does indeed make it easier. Are you able to order vegan products from your area online or from the sites I mentioned in my first post? I hope you will be able to try the recipe.

And that is wonderful about Mitz. I love animals and have always had them. Your pets become part of the family and are very special. I have my own special kitties. :)

I can't wait to try this one out!
Maybe I'll even get around to making my own seitan too.

Thanks for sharing your recipes!

Hi Ali,

Let me know if you like the recipe when you try it.. And You are welcome for the recipes.. I love to cook and it is a good feeling if my recipes can be enjoyed by others. I am glad I made the seitan. You get more seitan then when you buy it in the store and it freezes well. Of course, if time does not allow the store bought is fine...
